While there have been so many success stories at Newcastle United since takeover, one stands out for particular mention.

Indeed, it is the remarkable story of Joelinton.

Widely written off as a flop after failing to convince as a striker following what was then a club-record move from Hoffenheim in 2019, the Brazilian looked a £40m dud.

Still, Eddie Howe’s work with the player has totally transformed his career, moving him into central midfield and onto the wing.

The Newcastle manager believes the 26-year-old is an “incredible” part of his success and it seems that will soon translate into the international set-up.

Recently called up to the Brazil national squad, there is some big news coming out of the country.

Joelinton in line to make international debut

According to both UOL and Ge Globo, there is a good chance he makes his international debut this weekend.

The former claimed interim Ramon Menezes put a “sketch” of the starting lineup together during training in Barcelona ahead of the game against Guinea on Saturday, of which Joelinton was a part.

Globo then follow that up and suggest the Newcastle star worked with fellow likely starters in the form of Alisson Becker, Eder Militao and Casemiro.

Menezes even reportedly kept Joelinton in that particular group despite bringing the initial session to a halt.

The 2026 dream is alive

With Brazil undergoing something of a rebuild following their World Cup exit earlier this year, the 2026 dream could well be alive for Joelinton.

Reportedly so moved at his call-up he cried, the Newcastle star could surely force his way into regular contention should he impress.

Young enough to still feature at international level in three-and-a-half years, perhaps he could be lining up alongside Bruno Guimaraes when Brazil contest the next World Cup in Canada, the United States and Mexico.

It is wonderful to see Joelinton rewarded for his hard work. Given all he’s done in black and white, few would put reaching that next level past him.
