Both Liverpool and Tottenham have advanced to the Champions League semi finals after beating Porto and Manchester City respectively.

The English pair could meet in the final, where two former Newcastle players could line up against each other.

Yes, Georginio Wijnaldum and Moussa Sissoko could face off in the final of the UEFA Champions League.

Wijnaldum and Sissoko two games away from the final

It would be the former’s second final in a row, having lost to Real Madrid last season with the Reds. But for Sissoko, he could be on course to do the unthinkable.

Throughout his time as a Newcastle player, the Frenchman would toot his own horn about being good enough to play in the Champions League. Most people laughed, as he didn’t even look good in a poor Newcastle side.

Even when he got his big, and surprising, move to Tottenham, it took a while for Sissoko to make a name for himself. It’s only this season that he has truly shown his worth.

Wijnaldum and Sissoko were both part of the Newcastle team that were relegated in 2016. They both managed to get big money moves away from St James’ Park, while Rafa Benitez was able to steer the club out of the Championship.

Both players were considered flops. Wijnaldum could only score at home and would go missing whenever we left the North East, while Sissoko would put in toothless performance after toothless performance despite having the build of a brick you-know-what-house.

Yet three years on, the pair could face off in Madrid for club football’s biggest prize.

You can’t question their ability nowadays. Both have key roles at their respective clubs. It’s just a shame they didn’t play this well in black and white, otherwise we might not have gone down in 2016!
