Former Newcastle United flop Luuk de Jong has scored his first goal for Barcelona.

The Dutchman was making his fourth appearance for the Catalan giants against Levante, after joining on loan from Sevilla.

de Jong bagged the second goal of a 3-0 win for Barca, who were without manager Ronald Koeman after he was sent off against Cadiz.

It was good work from Sergino Dest to burst forward and release de Jong who had peeled off his marker through the middle.

de Jong then finished first-time into the bottom corner.

It was very well-taken, and he’ll be hoping more will follow.

de Jong will certainly have been champing at the bit to score, following his recent miss against Granada.

In that game, he somehow failed to score a header from point-blank range.

de Jong off the mark

de Jong’s time at Barca is going to make for a very interesting watch.

His loan spell at Newcastle was very underwhelming, but since departing St. James’ Park he has actually done quite well.

He was great at PSV Eindhoven, scoring 112 goals in 204 games. He also scored goals at Sevilla, although not nearly as often as back in his homeland.

He’s up and running at Barca now and it is going to be intriguing to see how he does, especially given their problems.
