The captain limped off on Saturday against Bournemouth in the 20th minute, unable to carry on after an early collision with his own player.
Lascelles was dealing with a break from Callum Wilson, who gave the Newcastle defender a little nudge in the back. That forced Lascelles to the ground and into Martin Dubravka, who also received treatment following the incident.
Paul Dummett replaced Lascelles, easily slotting back into the centre-back trio as we came from behind to win 2-1.
Lascelles’ injury got lost in the aftermath of the game, with most fans toasting back-to-back wins thanks to another two goals from defenders.
But he will reportedly miss three months of action, which is a blow for Steve Bruce. However, a portion of fans think this might actually be a blessing.
It’s no secret that Newcastle have a wealth of defensive options. We have six centre-backs, all of which are dependable Premier League players.
Dummett did well off the bench, playing alongside Ciaran Clark and Federico Fernandez who have both came in from the cold in recent weeks.
Then there’s Florian Lejeune and Fabian Schar, who many fans would say are actually our best two centre-backs. The pair are on the way back from injury themselves, meaning Lascelles’ absence shouldn’t hurt too much.
Squad depth hailed despite Lascelles injury
Lucky it’s the one position we can afford to lose someone 👍

So, Lascelles is out for the rest of the year😳 could this be a blessing in disguise though? #NUFC

He’s our worst centre half tbh. The other 4 are better.

Oh FFS. Thankfully we’re well stocked at centre back.

You can add Dummett to the list as well as Willems can play on the left hand side! Strength in depth eh!? When have Newcastle been able to say that?
