St James’ Park is well-known for it’s large stadium attendances and passionate fanbase, but a recent poll claiming it has the best atmosphere in the Premier league has left some Newcastle fans bemused.

A recent bet365 Twitter post ranked every Premier League stadium from one to twenty for their atmosphere, with the Newcastle United stadium topping the list.

St James’ Park beat the likes of Liverpool’s Anfield and Chelsea’s Stamford Bridge to the top spot, but a lot of Toon fans have been left unconvinced.

With Newcastle’s form this season leaving a lot to be desired, home support hasn’t been as passionate as usual.

The Toon’s record at St James’s Park alone has been particularly poor this campaign, and so naturally, fans haven’t had much to shout about.

Although it’s been praised in the past, Newcastle fans have questioned how it could rank so high in current times.

Will St James’s Park’s atmosphere return?

Although Newcastle fans have disagreed with the list, there’s every chance it’s still correct.

There’s no denying fan spirits have taken a knock this season, which has effected the buzz around St James’s Park.

But since the turn of the year, the atmosphere has been improving.

It’s an obvious point, but when Newcastle actually play well and put on a show, the stadium is electric.

The last two league home games against Cardiff and Manchester City has seen the stadium in full song, and it’s likely to be the same against Huddersfield this weekend.

That winning feeling seems to be all it takes for Newcastle supporters to fall back in love with the side, although that’s easier said than done.

When Newcastle supporters have something to cheer, there is arguably no crowd louder.
