Manchester City are in pole position to win the Premier League title thanks to a wonder goal from captain Vincent Kompany.

The Belgian defender scored the only goal of the game against Leicester, firing in absolute rocket into the top corner from distance. The Foxes defenders stepped off him, thinking ‘there’s no way he can score from there’.

How wrong they were, and that goal has put Manchester City in the driving seat to win the Premier League title this Sunday.

If they beat Brighton, then they will win back-to-back league titles, pipping Liverpool by a point.

It was an incredible strike by the 33-year-old, but Newcastle fans saw a similar goal earlier in the season. Fabian Schar broke the deadlock against Burnley in February, hammering the ball past Tom Heaton and into the top corner to put the Magpies in front.

It set Newcastle on their way to victory, and Schar would later win goal of the month for his strike.

Some people are describing Kompany’s goal as the best of the season, but Newcastle fans think it was just a poor imitation of Schar.

Both were unbelievable goals from centre-backs, but it’s fair to say last night’s goal was probably a bit more important…
