When Rafa Benitez left Newcastle in 2019, so did Wor Flags.
They vowed that they would not return to St James’ Park until Mike Ashley left the club.
At 5.25pm last Thursday, that became a reality. The club confirmed that they were under new ownership, with Amanda Staveley’s Saudi-backed consortium completing a deal to buy Newcastle United.
A lot of fans walked away from the club during Ashley’s tenure. They will now return to St James’ Park.
Unsurprisingly, the game against Tottenham is already sold out. The atmosphere is going to be out of this world.
Excitement is already starting to build for Sunday, and Wor Flags are playing their part.
The Newcastle fan group have put on some incredible flag displays in years gone by, and their presence has certainly been missed.
They will be back on Sunday with their first display since 2019, and it’s exciting to see what they have in store.
Preparations inside St James’ Park are already under way, with Wor Flags providing fans with a sneak peak via videos on Twitter.
One video in particular has got fans talking, with the club belting out Local Hero on the PA system while Wor Flags get to work.
Goosebumps. That’s the only word I can use. And it’s going to be even better in person on Sunday.
Fans are feeling all sorts of emotions after seeing Wor Flag’s video, and can’t wait to get inside St James’ Park.
