Steve Bruce has been discussing Matty Longstaff today and supporters have been reacting on Twitter.

The youngster has played just 377 minutes of action this season and hasn’t featured since the 18th January.

Longstaff burst onto the scene during 2019/20 and scored twice in the Premier League in each fixture against Manchester United.

As a homegrown talent it’s perhaps a surprise that he’s been rarely-seen this season with the Magpies struggling.

Newcastle are just a point above the drop zone and face Aston Villa tomorrow night looking for a big win.

Playing before their relegation rivals could give Newcastle the edge and a win would pile the pressure onto other teams.

Ahead of the game, Bruce was asked about Longstaff and he hinted that he might have to be patient for a little while longer.

He told The Chronicle: “He’s not in the side but let’s not forget he’s got a huge future – there’s no question about that.

“He had a big rise last year and finds himself not in the team at the moment so he’s just got to stick with it.

“His time will come again, that’s for sure.”

These comments haven’t gone down too well in the eyes of supporters.

Plenty are now fearing the worst for his future as long as Bruce is in charge.

Here is what the Magpies fan base are saying on Twitter after the boss clears up his stance on Longstaff.
