That has drawn plenty of comparisons with Santiago Munez from the famous Goal! film trilogy.
And the actor who played Munez, Kuno Becker, has sent a message to the Newcastle new-boy on Twitter.
He called it an ‘amazing story’ and called on Munoz to score plenty of goals for the club.
Becker congratulated Munoz and said his story will inspire youngsters around the world to dream.
Some Newcastle fans reacted to the message, as the film and reality come full circle.
They’d obviously rather have been welcoming a senior addition of proven Premier League quality.
But the club didn’t get any of those, so this remains the biggest story of the closing period of the transfer window.
