Florian Lejeune suffered his second horrific knee injury of the season in Newcastle’s clash with Crystal Palace on Saturday, and Toon supporters are devastated.

The defender appeared to seriously damage his knee in an innocuous challenge on Andros Townsend, going to ground almost immediately.

The centre-back was in visible agony after the tackle, and was quickly stretchered off around the hour mark.

His injured leg was heavily strapped up as he left the field, and it looks as if his season is now over.

Lejuene had already missed most of the campaign due to another knee injury, meaning this comes as a huge blow.

The defender injured an anterior cruciate ligament in pre-season, but miraculously fought his way back to fitness ahead of schedule in 2019.

That injury occurred to his right knee, but upsettingly for Lejeune it now appears he has suffered a similar injury on the opposite leg.

Lejeune is a crucial component of Rafa Benitez’s back three, and there’s fears his loss could have a drastic impact.

Rafa Benitez may well have to re-jig his formation in response to his loss or rely on Paul Dummett to replace the Frenchman.

Newcastle fans are certainly worried, with some commenting on the effect it will have on the side’s final games.
