Newcastle United fans have expressed their frustration on social media after a claim about Andy Carroll.
According to the Chronicle, the club are in talks with the player about him staying on at St. James’ Park.
That’s despite him recently appearing on the club’s ‘released players’ list.
Carroll was once again a bit-part player in 2020/21.
The Englishman played just 586 minutes across all competitions (Transfermarkt).
He managed to scored just one goal, against Leicester City in the Premier League back in January.
That is the only goal he’s scored since returning to the club for a second stint in 2019.
Many had expected Carroll to be moved on this summer, given his age, injury record and lack of cutting edge in front of goal.
But it appears club officials still believe he has something to offer.
The player is said to be currently on holiday, but negotiations are underway about him staying on for another year.
Fans have been giving their reactions to the Chronicle’s claim.
It’s safe to say there are plenty of people who don’t think this is the right move:

Such a terrible decision. Underlines Newcastle’s lack of desire to get any better.

What is the point of giving him a one year deal? Bruce wont use him and when he does he just gives free kicks away and never looks like scoring.
