Newcastle fans finally got some good news, as Elias Sorensen put pen to paper on a new contract.

The club have confirmed that the striker has signed a new three-and-a-half year deal.

Sorensen is enjoying a breakout season with the Magpies, so far scoring 19 goals for the reserves. This form has led to calls for the 19-year-old to get a first-team debut. The lack of attacking quality at Rafa Benitez’s disposal has only heightened the fans’ desire to see Sorensen in the first-team.

While some fans would rather see the youngster get a chance instead of Joselu, getting Sorensen tied down is good enough for now.

The reaction is resoundingly positive from the Toon Army, which is no surprise. The young forward looks like a goal machine and could possibly be a future Newcastle number nine if he’s nurtured correctly.

Meanwhile, it says a lot about Joselu that fans can’t help but comment on how bad he’s been when celebrating Sorensen’s signing.

But in fairness, the Spaniard was shocking against Blackburn. In an ideal world, Joselu might get a bit better, while Sorensen will get a chance in the upcoming FA Cup replay.

With a bit of luck he might even get on the score-sheet and stay in the first-team.
