Matt Ritchie has had an interesting season at Newcastle.

It started with talk that he could be sold, and that appears to be how it’s going to end.

In between the transfer drama, Ritchie has been converted form a right winger to a left wing-back. His transformation has been sensational, and breathed new life into his Magpies career.

While at times he hasn’t been perfect in possession, his commitment levels have remained as high as ever. Ever since arriving he has epitomised Rafa Benitez’s Newcastle.

So talk of him leaving St James’ Park hasn’t gone down too well with supporters.

The Sun have reported that Ritchie won’t be offered a new contract by the club due to his age, as he prepares to turn 30 in September. However, the Chronicle’s Lee Ryder has refuted these claims.

The former Bournemouth man has a contract at Newcastle until 2021. That means that his career in the North East could last another couple of seasons, but at the age he is, Ritchie might want at least one more lengthy contract to help him see out his career.

If he’s not going to get it at Newcastle, then going elsewhere is the only other option.

With the situation unclear, Newcastle fans have made their feelings known.

Most supporters don’t want to see Ritchie go
