Each passing day we get closer to finding out whether or not Rafa Benitez will stay at Newcastle.
The Spaniard’s contract expires at the end of the season, leading to obvious fear from fans that we could lose our biggest asset.
Benitez’s vision for the club is clear, it’s just a case of whether Mike Ashley could match that vision and give him the tools to do his job to the best of his ability.

With Premier League survival secured, Benitez has started to talk about his future in the press, and things are starting to sound positive in quotes reported by Sky Sports.
When asked if there had been any progress, he said: “Yes. I was talking with Lee Charnley this week and we will let you know as soon as we have more news.

“At the moment, it’s just we have had another talk and we’ll continue talking.
“I am positive that we are talking and everybody knows my idea. I would like to see this club growing and growing, going to where I think they deserve to be.”

Well that’s good news, isn’t it?
The Magpies hierarchy would be crazy to lose Benitez. The fans adore him and there would be a real backlash if he was allowed to leave.
With Benitez at the helm, there is a chance that his club can go somewhere. Fighting relegation has become the norm at Newcastle, but that can change with an illustrious manager like Rafa, providing he has the backing of the owner.
What he’s said is certainly good news, but it doesn’t necessarily mean it’s a done deal. But it’s a step in the right direction, and fans are understandably excited.
