Newcastle have been on the end of their fair share of poor refereeing decisions this season. Lee Mason had a nightmare in the game against Everton on Saturday, and the next man in the middle is Mike Dean.

Dean will be the referee as we head south to take on Bournemouth this weekend.

The 50-year-old is arguably one of the least popular referees in the Premier League, often making himself the centre of attention with his decisions.

He recently took charge of Manchester City’s 6-0 victory against Chelsea, where he comically awarded a penalty to the home side. It wasn’t the decision that made people laugh though, it was the stance he adopted as he dramatically pointed to the spot as if he was on Broadway.

The other week he was the official for Tottenham’s defeat to Burnley, and he ended the game with an enraged Mauricio Pochettino in his face. Once again, all eyes were on Dean.

Earlier in the campaign, he cost us against Wolves. DeAndre Yedlin was sent off early in the second half for a foul on Diogo Jota, in an incident where he could easily have given a yellow.

Dean also failed to spot a blatant elbow from Willy Boly on Ayoze Perez.

After so many poor decisions and ridiculous moments, fans aren’t enthused about the prospect of Dean taking charge against the Cherries.
