As the January transfer window rumbles on, Newcastle have still not completed the signing of Miguel Almiron.
He was the talk of the town in December, with rumours of a deal being agreed. However, as always with a Newcastle United target, nothing is simple. And, as always, the issue seems to be money.
According to the Daily Mail, the Magpies have offered £17million for the midfielder. However, Atlanta United have asked them to up their offer to £25million, which would make him the most expensive player in the club’s history.

Rafa Benitez is desperate for reinforcements, as Newcastle enter the second half of the season embroiled in a relegation battle.
Newcastle are missing someone with the craft that Almiron possesses, which is why the 24-year-old costs so much.

Almiron update enrages Newcastle fans once again
The last tweet sums things up perfectly. Time and time again, Newcastle have refused to meet a player’s asking price under Mike Ashley. It happened last January with Nicolai Jorgensen, and fortunately we got away with that one.
But Almiron just joins the long list of players who Newcastle have ‘tried to sign’, before being priced out of a deal. While other teams put their money where their mouth is and back their manager, Benitez continues to work on peanuts as he aims to defy the odds.

Some supporters are even amazed that we’ve apparently offered £17million, but it means nothing if that fee isn’t enough to secure his signature.
It’s a case of deja vu for fans during the transfer window.
