Newcastle United reportedly still haven’t agreed a contract with Joe Willock.
That’s according to Sky Sports, who claim the two parties are ‘a distance apart’ from personal terms being agreed.
While the terminology is vague, it’s massively concerning that we still haven’t completed this deal.
It was reported on Sunday that Newcastle had a agreed a fee with Arsenal, possibly rising to £25million.
Negotiating with the Gunners felt like the difficult part, but Willock’s contract is proving to be tricky too.
It’s typical Newcastle. We’re just days away from the new Premier League season, and we’re still stumbling around trying to complete a deal for a man we’ve said we wanted to sign since April.
It feels more and more unlikely that we’ll see Willock feature against West Ham on Sunday. There will even be fears from some supporters that this deal might not happen at all now.
The Chronicle claimed on Wednesday that the 21-year-old wants to be one of the top earners at the club. That feels excessive, considering his only impressive run in the Premier League came in the 14 games at Newcastle last season.
That appears to be the stumbling block, with Sky reporter Keith Downie stating Newcastle’s offer isn’t low.
Regardless, Newcastle’s inability to close this deal is frustrating an already angry fanbase.
This has been a desperate summer for Toons fans, and the dawdling over the Willock deal is rubbing salt in the wounds.
