Some Newcastle fans have hailed Warren Barton for his comments on talkSPORT this morning.

The former Magpies defender, like many fans, was aghast at the performance during last night’s 1-0 defeat to bottom-of-the-league Sheffield United.

A Billy Sharp penalty was the difference at Bramall Lane to give the Blades their first victory of the campaign.

Newcastle fans expressed their concern before a ball was even kick as they digested Steve Bruce’s starting XI, which consisted of a back five.

There was feeling that the manager didn’t want to lose, rather than pick a team to win, and it was truly a terrible performance from the visitors.

Barton gave an impassioned take on Newcastle under Bruce on talkSPORT this morning, with his opinion essentially that there is a lack of ambition.

He said: “If you’re 50 yards away from goal you’re never going to score goals.

“I think it’s a mindset. Steve is going into games – not just now, or the last six games, I’m talking about all season and last season – and it’s about not getting beat. That sets a tone.

“I feel for the players. I think there’s enough quality to be playing a lot better and more attractive football than what we are doing at the moment.”

Barton also suggested that there is no passion on the manager or his staff’s part when the team win.

On social media, Barton’s comments have gone down extremely well with many Newcastle fans, many of whom have struggled to find the right words to describe their feelings about the current situation.
