Some Newcastle United fans have been reacting to an update from Steve Bruce that Callum Wilson is facing up to eight weeks on the sidelines.

The manager delivered the news in his press conference this morning, following a tense few days for supporters who watched him go off early against Southampton on Saturday.

The England international has suffered a ‘bad tear’ on the hamstring and is looking at a period on the sidelines of between six and eight weeks (via the Chronicle).

It is a hammer blow for the Magpies, who have rather relied on Wilson’s goals this season.

In 23 appearances in all competitions this ter, Wilson has netted 10 times and made five assists.

He had been in great in the past few games, but Bruce will now need to determine who will replace his star man.

There are three natural options for the manager; Andy Carroll, Dwight Gayle and Joelinton.

Carroll and Gayle have both had their injury problems and Joelinton has been horribly out of form for a long time.

There is also the notion of playing Allan Saint-Maximin as a central striker, but Newcastle would be losing his ability to leave full-backs for dead in one-vs-one situations out wide.

On social media, some Newcastle fans have taken the news about Wilson very badly, as expected:
