While Newcastle United were failing against Arsenal, Manchester United were storming Old Trafford in protest against their owners.

The European Super League saga has tipped fans over the edge. For a long time, Manchester United supporters have been unhappy with the Glazers.

But their involvement in the ESL has been the tip of the iceberg, forcing supporters to take action.

Some even made it onto the Old Trafford pitch on Sunday. The protest was so severe that the game with Liverpool was postponed.

It was a huge statement of intent from Manchester United fans. And with Sky in place to broadcast the game with Liverpool, they had a front row seat to what was going on.

There’s been debates about the protest all over Sky Sports News, but now things have gone a step further.

A Sky News reporter approached Avram Glazer, asking him if he was going to apologise for the European Super League saga that threatened to destroy football.

Despite multiple questions, Glazer ignored the reporter.

This has got a lot of Newcastle United fans talking.

Double standards

Manchester United are well within their rights to protest. If they’re unhappy, they can use their voice. And that’s exactly what they have done.

But the hypocrisy from the likes of Sky is startling.

Toon supporters have been protesting against Mike Ashley for years.

The club has been dragged through the mud under his watch. We’ve seen two relegations, as well as countless battles to avoid the drop. There’s been limited investment. Club legends have been treated appallingly. The stadium isn’t maintained, while the training ground has never been redeveloped.

But whenever Newcastle fans question their owner, there is never this level of national outcry. Ashley is never questioned by Sky. All he did was a pally interview with David Craig back in 2017.

The double standard is shocking. And it won’t just be Newcastle fans who will be annoyed.

The broadcasters only stand up and take note when it’s the ‘big six’ that are effected.

Toon fans aren’t happy, and have let their feelings be known on Twitter.
