Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a claim from the Sunday Mirror (4/4, pg 63) that Arsenal are open to selling Joe Willock this summer.
The midfielder is currently on loan at St. James’ Park and has made a bright start.
The 21-year-old has added drive and vitality to the midfield, and has come up with a couple of goals already – his latest being the crucial equaliser against Tottenham Hotspur last weekend.
He has not set the world alight, but he has definitely made some positive contributions and the team looks better for having him on the pitch.
Talk is already turning to what will happen with Willock this summer.
It’s being reported that Arsenal are open to selling the player, but he could cost in the region of £20 million.
That might end up proving too much for Newcastle, and it almost certainly will be if the club slips into the Championship.
It is therefore paramount that the Magpies execute a successful safety mission in order to give themselves the best chance of re-signing Willock.
On social media, fans have been reacting to the report Willock could be sold, and it seems plenty would love to see him become one of their own:
He’s our best centre midfielder. Simple.

If we stay up, yes. But it would take a lot. He’s clearly better than the level we play at right now. Under a different manager he could be amazing. Under Bruce he’d be killing his career

We should act to get him, but we won’t.

One of the only midfielders we have that gets into the box. Scored 2 since Jan so nearly at joelintons total already. I’d keep him but he will most likely be too expensive for us. Decent manager would get more out of him than Bruce.

Better Than 80% Of What We Have. Has To Be Value For Money Deal

If the price is right we need him, but got to move Hendrick out. No point in him picking up wages.

We would be mad not to have him for a reasonable price considering our other options available without him. Get Hendrick as far away from the club as possible, he shouldn’t even be a squad player

I would personally take him
– He’s better than the majority we have at the moment
– He’s doing well considering hes a box to box midfielder and Bruce insists on playing him on the right side of a diamond
– My mam is better than Hendrick

I’d take him, and hope we get a better manager that can develop him.
