Paul Dummett returned to action on Saturday for Newcastle United, and produced an heroic cameo for the Magpies.

The ace started on the bench after returning from injury, but was sent on by Steve Bruce with around 25 minutes to go to help the team see out the game.

This after Southampton had pulled a goal back through James Ward-Prowse to set up a tense finish for the hosts, who were down to ten men after Jeff Hendrick was sent off.

Dummett replaced Allan Saint-Maximin and was required to fill in at centre-half once Fabian Schar had been stretchered off, but did a tremendous job alongside Isaac Hayden.

The Wales international really rose to the challenge, and helped the Magpies hold on for a 3-2 win.

On Twitter yesterday, The Chronicle sent a picture message to Dummett of a Newcastle shirt with the name β€˜Dummaldini’ on the back, which @ruinedshirts had previously brought to everyone’s attention.

The 29-year-old appears to be on board with that particular nickname, replying with β€˜Wye aye’ and a photoshopped image (created by Magpies fan @mattywood92) of his own face on the legendary Italian defender’s body.

Plenty of Newcastle fans lapped up the image:
