Miguel Almiron is a fan favourite at Newastle United.

Signed by Rafa Benitez in 2019, the Paraguayan was a club record signing when he arrived.

Despite costing £21million, it quickly became apparent that Almiron was worth every penny.

Since then, he has become better known for his work ethic and attitude off the ball.

But after a bright start, things haven’t been quite as rosy under Steve Bruce.

Almiron has often played out of position, forced on the right wing despite looking wildly uncomfortable.

Meanwhile, he has been stuck in a team that is clearly underperforming.

That led to the 27-year-old telling Paraguayan radio stadium ABC Cardinal that he wants to play for a team that ‘fights more’.

However, Almiron has since played down those comments.

“What I was speaking about has been wrongly interpreted,” he told Sky Sports.

“At no point was I suggesting I wanted to play for another team. As I’ve been saying, I’m very happy in Newcastle and all I’m thinking about is helping the team achieve its goals of improving.”

It is great to see Almiron reaffirming his commitment to the club.

His attitude and application are infectious. And when he is used in the right position, he can be a major threat in the final third.

Almiron should play for a club that fights more. It is up to his teammates to match his ambitions.

But after setting the record straight, fans have had their say on Miggy’s latest comments.
