Newcastle fans have taken to Twitter to react after The Times confirmed that Martin Dubravka has suffered a setback in his recovery from a heel injury.
The report states that the 31-year-old – who cost Newcastle £4 million from Sparta Prague – is recovering slower than expected, and there was disappointment after his protective moon boot was recently removed.
Dubravka suffered the problem while jogging in his native Slovakia at the end of August and underwent surgery to help solve the issue. While the Magpies are hoping more operations aren’t necessary, the recovery period for this setback will be around five to six weeks regardless.
Luckily for Steve Bruce, Karl Darlow has been doing well in Dubravka’s absence. However, we presume the Magpies boss would like his No.1 shot-stopper back as soon as possible, so this news won’t be music to his ears.
If something were to happen to Darlow too, then Bruce only has summer signing Mark Gillespie to call upon, a man who was signed from Motherwell to be third choice at St James’ Park.
There is no doubting his importance to us. The Times also state that no goalkeeper in the Premier League made more saves than the Slovakian last term, which is quite impressive.
Let’s see what the Newcastle fans on Twitter have been saying about The Times’ report…

Darlow’s came in and stepped up when necessary, but shame about Dubravka’s setback mind. Big blow for Slovakia too for their Euro qualifiers, thinking of it https://t.co/6cIRYMWePW
