Newcastle United have new owners, but a new manager doesn’t appear to be absolutely imminent.

It is expected that Steve Bruce will not last much longer in the dugout at St. James’ Park.

But some supporters hoping he will be sacked before the Tottenham Hotspur game this weekend might be set for disappointment.

According to Chronicle journalist Lee Ryder, Bruce took training yesterday along with Steve Agnew and Stephen Clemence, and he is back at the training ground today.

He also adds that Graeme Jones did his usual drills.

The information from Ryder does not suggest that Bruce is on the brink of leaving his post.

It follows claims Bruce would not be in the dugout against Spurs, with the new owners fearing his presence could dampen supporters’ spirits.

The Mirror reported that Jones would be taking over from Bruce on an interim basis.

They stated that the new owners are hard at work searching for the right candidate to replace Bruce, and have already fielded several applications.

On social media, some Toon fans have been reacting to Ryder’s tweet.

In many people’s eyes, Bruce being removed from his post before the Tottenham clash now looks unlikely.

Some make the point that Bruce would not be as heavily involved as he is right now, if he was about to lose his job.

Surely, if the plan was to have Jones take charge on Sunday, then the decision to fire Bruce would have been made by now.

That way, the players would get essential time working with just Jones.
