Newcastle United have announced their 25-man squad for the Premier League season, and Jack Colback isn’t in it.
When the players returned for pre-season training, there was a big worry that the midfielder would get another chance with the Magpies.

And during the early stages of pre-season, Colback was in and around the team, starting both games out in China. But ever since the Hibs game, he hasn’t been seen in a Toon shirt.
But still he remained at the club, and as deadline day passed, Jack Colback was still a Newcastle United player. Nottingham Forest hadn’t come calling again, or any of their Championship rivals.

So with Steve Bruce set to announce his 25-man Premier League squad, there was a chance the former Sunderland lad might get in.
But Friday afternoon brought news of the squad, and the exclusion of Colback. The 29-year-old joins Rolando Aarons, Achraf Lazaar, Henri Saivet and Jamie Sterry in missing out.
While some fans were shocked to see Aarons fail to make the squad after featuring so much in pre-season, most of the Toon Army seem to be pretty ecstatic at Colback failing to make the cut.
So what does the future hold for Colback? He can’t go back to the Championship as their transfer window is shut, so he either needs to drop down the divisions even more, head north to Scotland, or out into Europe. I’m sure Sunderland would take him back…

Newcastle fans rejoice as Colback misses out
Sheer relief hearing the news Jack Colback didn’t make the cut for #nufc squad number. Meanwhile…Matty Longstaff, he’s one of our own…HWTL

Always liked Colback when he was here, but leaving him out for #mattylongstaff is a brave and ambitious move….👏#stevebruce.
Swapping safeish plodder for exciting young long term prospect is exactly what we want at #NUFC . https://t.co/k4qa8ZlmD0

Surprised Colback didn’t make it. As much as I don’t rate him at all, with Diame leaving we are light on DM/destroyer style midfielders.

No number for colback, that’s the end for him by the looks of it 👍 2 toon managers in a row both not fancied him now

No colback in the squad, absolutely brilliant news, that and big AC coming home is the best news we’ve had all summer 😂
