Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the news that Ciaran Clark has signed a contract extension at St. James’ Park.
The 31-year-old, who joined the club in 2016 from Aston Villa for £5.1 million (BBC Sport), has signed a two-year deal with the Magpies.
Clark has clocked up 103 appearances to date and has scored 11 goals.

14 of those have come in 2020/21 after beginning the campaign with an ankle injury.
Many players have been sub-par for Newcastle this term, but Clark is one of few who can hold his head high.
Speaking about his new deal, he said (Newcastle official): “It’s a brilliant feeling and I’m delighted that I’ve managed to get it signed.
“My contract was ending in the summer; for me, I was trying to stay more focused on the games, getting back involved this season and trying to play games, and I’ve managed to do that over the last few weeks.
“To be back playing was the real aim for me, then the contract has followed, so I’m delighted to concentrate now on the next couple of years.”
Steve Bruce also added that he was delighted, branding Clark a ‘very talented’ defender who gives us great balance’.
On social media, despite the doom and gloom about Newcastle at the moment, fans were generally very pleased about Clark’s renewal:

Glad he’s signed, as he’s been our best defender of late by some distance. Worrying that the age of our back line is keeping up though, needs a complete overhaul in the very near future.
