Newcastle United fans have been reacting to a suggestion from Danny Murphy that Roy Hodgson would be a good replacement for Steve Bruce.

Currently, Bruce remains first-team manager at St. James’ Park against the odds.

It had been expected he would be fired before the Tottenham Hotspur clash.

The Magpies then lost that game 3-2 and despite that defeat, Bruce still hasn’t gone.

Clearly, the new owners are being very thorough in their process of replacing the 60-year-old.

It is cause for concern though amongst many fans, who have been reapplying the pressure following Sunday’s game.

The likes of Steven Gerrard, Unai Emery and Roberto Martinez were mentioned yesterday by the Times.

Danny Murphy believes Newcastle ought to go down a different route, and backed Hodgson as the man to steer the club away from trouble this season.

He said on talkSPORT: “I know for sure the players would like him and be on board with him, you can’t not.

“He’s been there and done it, he took Palace from an impossible position, they were in a much worse position than Newcastle by the way, and kept them up comfortably.

“He knows what he’s doing, he’s been in many relegation fights

“Time at Fulham, time at West Brom, he’s been there and done it, of course with his age and what Newcastle want to do it is a short term thing.”

Hodgson left Crystal Palace at the end of last season after successfully keeping the Eagles up.

The 71-year-old has not yet retired, and did leave the door open for future job offers.

Newcastle fans react

On social media, fans have been giving their reactions to Murphy’s suggestion of Hodgson.

It seems that a lot of Toon fans would actually take the Premier League’s oldest-ever manager, but obviously only on a short-term basis.
