Newcastle United have confirmed that Callum Wilson is set to miss the final three games of the season.

Newcastle’s Premier League safety was confirmed on Monday night, as Fulham lost 2-0 to Burnley.

The win over Leicester on Friday pretty much got us over the line, with Wilson bagging two goals in a 4-2 victory.

That brought his tally to 12, which is more than double what anyone else has managed in a Newcastle shirt this season.

However, Wilson won’t be adding to that tally.

The striker is set to miss the remaining three games with a hamstring problem.

Wilson has only just returned from a hamstring problem – an injury that threatened to send us down to the Championship.

Newcastle have been heavily reliant on Wilson this season, which is why he was brought in last summer for £20million.

His injury in February was a blow, but this one is less concerning.

With survival confirmed, we now have nothing to play for. Wilson can rest up and ensure he is sharp and ready for next season.

There was panic when Wilson got injured against Southampton. We were set for a lengthy spell without our only natural goalscorer.

This time there is no need to panic.

It is disappointing that we won’t see Wilson anymore this season. It is especially disappointing for fans set to attend the Sheffield United game, who were no doubt looking forward to showing Wilson their apprectiation.

But that will have to wait until next season. Hopefully the next time Wilson scores for Newcastle it will be in front of a packed out St James’ Park.

But for now, his season is over.
