For the second time in his career, Aleksandar Mitrovic has been relegated from the Premier League.

Some fans were sceptical when he was sold to Fulham, with the target man proving to be a bit of a cult figure at Newcastle.

But once Rafa Benitez took over, Mitrovic’s days were numbered. Following promotion he was loaned out to the Championship with Fulham, where the striker’s goals guided them to the top flight.

He scored 12 times in 17 Championship games, which was an incredible achievement. And his return to the Premier League went well, looking exceptional in a Fulham side that had spent a lot of money.

Every time the 24-year-old scored, someone would pipe up that Benitez had made a mistake to replace him with Salomon Rondon.

But as the season has progressed, Mitrovic’s influence has waned, while Rondon has gone on to become arguably Newcastle’s most important player.

Fulham’s number nine has 10 goals in all competitions, the same amount as Rondon.

Like in most cases, Benitez has been proven right. While Mitro does have his strengths, he isn’t as influential as Rondon.

And once again the Serbian will be playing Championship football. That’s assuming he stays at Craven Cottage…

And Newcastle fans have jumped at the chance to bask in the fact that Rafa was right once again.
