Newcastle United fans have been reacting to the news that full-back Achraf Lazaar has officially left St. James’ Park.

The 29-year-old has finally departed after a somewhat bizarre stint at the club, which saw him make just 10 first-team appearances for the Magpies.

Lazaar was signed in 2016 from Palermo on Rafa Benitez’s watch, but struggled to make an impact.

Over the past few years the Morocco international has had loan spells at Benevento, Sheffield Wednesday and Cosenza in a bid to try and prove his worth, but was unable to force his way into contention under Benitez or Steve Bruce.

The player will now hope to find a new club after mutually terminating his contract early.

Lazaar’s departure means Newcastle have been able to get around £9000-a-week (Spotrac) off the wage bill.

On social media, Magpies fans have been giving their verdicts on Lazaar leaving the club after almost five years.

Some expressed their sympathy for the player, believing that he perhaps wasn’t given enough chances, and others were simply not fussed given how little he featured.
