Newcastle fans were excited to finally break their transfer record when they signed Miguel Almiron for £21 million.
While some fans were hoping the Paraguayan would be a starter against Wolves, Rafael Benitez decided against throwing him straight in. The decision seemed astute, with Ayoze Perez showing some deft touches and great work rate.

However, with 20 minutes left, the forward was introduced to the action to rapturous applause. With Christian Atsu making way, it seems possible that Benitez fancies Almiron as a winger rather than number 10 to begin with. Keen to make an instant impression, the 24-year-old gave away a quick free-kick – not in the same manner as Aleksandar Mitrovic on his debut, though!
It was obvious that he does have talent and likes to take a player on. He may have looked excitable at times, but as he settles in, hopefully, the composure will follow.
It’s nice to see a Magpies player run at a team with pace and Almiron is sure to become a fans’ favourite quickly if he effectively does so.

The Toon Army were quick to take to Twitter to praise the new signing, albeit in a deflating last-gasp draw:
Next up for the Mapgies is Huddersfield and it’s a game Almiron can really show his potential and talent if called upon.
