Many Newcastle supporters are expressed their anger on social media, following comments made about the club by Rio Ferdinand.
The BT Sport pundit has caused a storm by suggesting that supporters of the club should all pitch in to buy the club if they really want rid of Mike Ashley.
He said on his YouTube channel (quoted by Chronicle Live): “He doesn’t care what people think.

“It’s his club and he’s doing what he wants to do.
“Whether you like it or not, he’s the one that’s put the money up and he’s doing what he thinks is right for the club.
“Whether the Geordies don’t like it, a lot of them hate him and don’t like him but, round your money up and take over the club then.”
It is a hugely embarrassing take from the former Manchester United defender, who has seemingly overlooked the fact that the cost to buy Newcastle United Football Club is approximately £300 million.

It is yet another example of a pundit who takes a mere occasional glance at Newcastle and speaks without fully understanding the mood of the fanbase.
To suggest fans effectively should be looking to organise a whip-round is an insult, and just complete downplays the neglect show by the owner to the club.
On social media, many Newcastle fans were left seething by the audacity of Ferdinand:
