Newcastle United have endured a poor start to the new season.
The Magpies are already languishing in the relegation zone, and are yet to win this season.
It’s just two points from a possible 15, and Steve Bruce remains under huge pressure from supporters.
The latest result saw Newcastle come from behind to take a point against Leeds United.
They had Allan Saint-Maximin to thank, in the absence of main goalscorer Callum Wilson.
The Frenchman scored a tremendous solo goal, which led to a showering of praise from Toon fans and indeed neutrals.
Interestingly in the second half, Steve Bruce did not turn to Dwight Gayle as his side searched for another goal.
His goalscoring record may not be that great in the Premier League, but one would have thought he still would have been sent on.
Instead, Bruce introduced Ryan Fraser for Miguel Almiron, then, bizarrely, Emil Krafth for Javier Manquillo with 10 minutes to go.
And finally, Jacob Murphy replaced Joelinton in injury time.
Bruce has previously spoken highly of Gayle in the past, and tried to sign him multiple times.
He is yet to feature so far this season, raising questions about how the manager now sees him.
He was asked about Gayle’s lack of involvement, and he said (via Northern Echo): “I think it’s the system that we are playing, which I’m looking at of course. Dwight trains every day and is a great pro.
“I’m sure he will be frustrated – well, I know for a fact he is. But then again, so are ten, 12 other players.”
Newcastle fans have a theory
