Newcastle United have parted company with Steve Bruce after more than two years in charge. He will be replaced on an interim basis by assistant manager Graeme Jones.

Bruce has failed to oversee a single win during 2021/22. Newcastle are second bottom of the Premier League after seven matches and also saw his side beaten by Burnley in the Carabao Cup.

The 60-year-old leaves Newcastle with a win ratio of just 28%, winning just 28 of his 97 matches in charge of the Magpies.

Bruce managed a game for the 1000th time on Sunday. His team were beaten 3-2 by Tottenham and that has proved the final score on a largely underwhelming reign.

Now, the search begins for a new incumbent. Eddie Howe, Lucian Favre and Paulo Fonseca are thought to be the frontrunners for the position.

In the short term, the job falls in the lap of Jones. He will be assisted by Steve Agnew, Stephen Clemence, Ben Dawson and Simon Smith.

Newcastle travel to Crystal Palace on Saturday in desperate need of three points. The hope will be that Bruce’s departure can revive the club’s fortunes.

What have Newcastle fans said about Bruce exiting the club?

Well, supporters might be cracking open the cans of ale outside St James’ Park once again this morning! This will be met with similar glee to that of the club being taken over some weeks ago.

Bruce, although a devoted Newcastle supporter, has never been a popular appointment in the eyes of the fans. Now, they’ll hope to get a more exciting manager to lead the club forward.

Whoever gets the job as a clear remit in the short term. Newcastle need to remain as a Premier League football club and survival will be key.

Looking at Twitter it’s clear that fans are delighted with this news and speculation will now increase as to who might be next. Here is what the fan base has had to say this morning.
