Steve Bruce has confirmed that DeAndre Yedlin is out of today’s game against Manchester City.

The American defender is ruled out due to a hip injury, which opens the door for either Emil Krafth or Javi Manquillo. However, Sky Sports reporter Keith Downie has stated that the Swede is the most likely to come into the side.

Krafth joined Newcastle this summer from Amiens, but has really struggled so far in black and white. He’s been out of the starting XI since Yedlin returned from injury, but will get a chance to restore his reputation against the Premier League champions.

However, not a lot of fans expect him to do that. The 25-year-old will likely be up against Raheem Sterling, who has given the best defenders in the world the run around. So what chance does Krafth have?

A lot of supporters would rather Manquillo played, and with good reason. The Spaniard is a bit more athletic and has proven that he can be competent at the back for the Magpies, despite the odd horror-show.

However, Bruce seems likely to go for his own signing instead of the former Liverpool and Sunderland man. If Krafth can keep Sterling quiet and help Newcastle to avoid defeat, he’ll have been worth every penny of the £5 million he cost this summer.

Toon fans would rather see Manquillo against Manchester City
