It was a successful weekend for Newcastle United youngster Elliot Anderson. He’s currently on loan at Bristol Rovers and on Saturday he scored his first goal for the club in a 4-0 win. He also bagged his second assist since joining.

Anderson has really impressed since his arrival at Bristol Rovers. The manager, ex-mag Joey Barton, has previously spoken highly of him. The 19-year-old was handed two ‘Team of the Week’ appearances, one for League Two and the other across the four leagues in the EFL.

Thus far, Anderson now has a goal, as well as two assists to his name for Rovers. They’re now up to 11th place in the league, with a game in hand on Salford City, with whom they currently share points with.

Anderson might be the missing ingredient Bristol Rovers have needed

Since the arrival of the loan signing from Newcastle, Anderson has helped the Pirates pick-up form. In their last five matches, they’ve only lost one.

They drew against and beat promotion fighting Sutton United, grabbed a point against Mansfield and defeated Stevenage 4-0. In both victories, Anderson had a goal involvement.

When he was in the youth ranks at Newcastle, he was always highly rated. He even made an FA Cup appearance against Arsenal back in January 2021.

Over a week after his FA Cup debut, he made his Premier League debut against Arsenal. Since then, he’s made appearances on the bench in a few Premier League matches, against the likes of Man City.

Before joining Bristol Rovers, the 19-year-old was linked with a loan move to Luton Town, per The Athletic. If he continues how he’s going, Anderson could well get a loan move to the Championship sooner rather than later.

It’s been a great start so far for the Toon youngster. He’s already got a goal and two assists to his name since joining Rovers. Should his form continue it may be the beginning of some big opportunities ahead for Anderson.
