Ever since takeover reports emerged on Sunday night, Newcastle fans have been in a frenzy.
Initially it sounded like we were about to be handed the world. A Manchester City style takeover that would transform the club and take us to the top of the footballing pyramid.
Then came scepticism that maybe a deal wasn’t happening at all. Maybe Sheikh Khaled isn’t as rich as we all think. There were far too many questions, yet no concrete answers.
We’ve all been dreaming about the players we could sign, but that is only natural. Fans have even joked about the possibility of Kylian Mbappe joining.
It’s been a crazy week. We’ve even found out about a potential rivalry between Sheikh Khaled and Manchester City owner Sheikh Mansour, which may have included a Grandfather being murdered.
In true Newcastle fashion, everything is a soap opera.
All we want is a takeover
While reports and rumours continue to swirl, there has been one misconception from the wider footballing world. Newcastle fans aren’t bothered about being the next Manchester City, we just want to see the back of Mike Ashley.
The Sports Direct tycoon’s reign has been awful. We’ve been relegated twice. There’s been no trophies. Most the time we’ve been battling relegation. We’ve had massively unpopular managers. Funds have barely been invested. Christ, we managed to get a Champions League winning manager to join and even he’s been messed about!
The takeover debacle has been rumbling on for years. Toon fans are sick of it. We aren’t bothered about who buys the club or how rich they are.
All they need to do is invest a little bit of money and they’re already one up on Ashley.
It’s him we want to see the back of. We aren’t demanding ludicrous amounts of money to be spent on players and a new stadium. We just want a chance to awaken a sleeping giant.
With a new owner and Rafa Benitez calling the shots, we can do that.
