Former Newcastle United player Christian Atsu has now been found after being trapped under the rubble of a collapsed building following an earthquake in Turkey.
The Ghana FA have confirmed the positive news, and stated that the 31-year-old is now receiving treatment following the catastrophe.
Disturbing news emerged on Monday that Atsu was trapped after a building had collapsed following earthquakes in Turkey in Syria.
There were then conflicting reports about his whereabouts, with uncertainty over his safety continuing.
But Tuesday has brought better news regarding Atsu, with the Ghana FA backing up a claim from earlier in the morning that he had been rescued from the rubble.

Atsu is currently playing for Turkish side Hatayspor, having joined the Super Lig side in September on a one-year deal. He scored a last-minute free-kick to beat Kasimpasa 1-0 on Sunday night.
Newcastle ‘welcome news’ that Christian Atsu has been found
Newcastle United had issued a message on Monday, writing ‘praying for some positive news Christian Atsu’ alongside a picture of the winger.
Now the club have commented again following the positive update.
They wrote: “Welcome news. Our thoughts remain with Christian, his loved ones and all those affected by Monday’s devastating earthquakes.”
The earthquakes have had a devastating impact in Turkey and Syria. It is reported that the death toll has passed 5,000, with 5,775 buildings collapsed.
News that Atsu has been found is certainly welcome. He spent five years at St James’ Park, joining on loan from Chelsea in 2016 before making the move permanent a year later. He was part of Rafa Benitez’s squad that won the Championship title in 2017.
Hopefully Atsu gets the treatment he needs and is able to make a full recovery.
