Newcastle defender’s latest injury could keep him out for the season, he may be sold in the summer

Newcastle United skipper Jamaal Lascelles has picked up a calf injury which could keep him out for the rest of the season.

Jamaal Lascelles has apparently picked up a calf injury that will rule him out of Newcastle‘s remaining fixtures. That could mean that the former Nottingham Forest man has played his last game for the Toon.

A tweet from Craig Hope clarified that the injury to Sean Longstaff was not as bad as suspected with reports before the game suggesting he could have a broken foot and miss the rest of the campaign. However he then went on to break the news about club captain, Lascelles.

Lascelles’ season could be over due to a calf injury

Hope’s tweet read: “No break in the foot of Sean Longstaff & could return next weekend. But Jamaal Lascelles season could be over because of calf problem. [Allan] Saint-Maximin still not training fully.”

Lascelles’ future is currently up in the air at Newcastle with the feeling being he may be moved on in the summer. His current £55k-a-week deal (via Salarysport) is set to expire next summer, so Newcastle could expect to bring in a few million pounds if they were to sell.

There’s still a potential future for Lascelles at Newcastle

However, there’s another school of thought that Lascelles may be kept on as defensive cover given the increased fixture list that comes with European football. Not to mention the need for ‘home-grown’ players in the squad when playing in Europe.

If he is to be moved on, It would certainly be an awful way to leave the club after eight years, not being able to get the chance to grace the pitch one more time in a playing capacity.
