Newcastle United could be without Paul Dummett for their Premier League opener against West Ham United.

Despite that, Dummett did feature in the second-half against Rotherham United earlier this week.

He played no part against Burton Albion though, and now faces a race against time to be fit to face the Hammers on August 15.

Bruce said of the 29-year-old: “That’s a little bit of a concern. We’ll see how that is.

“We don’t think it’s anything untoward.

“We think he’ll be touch and go for the start of the season, unfortunately.”

News of another injury to Dummett will hardly come as a surprise.

The star has rarely gone a season without some kind of issue.

Last term, he was limited to just 16 appearances, and in 2019/20 he played 17 games.

It is the last thing Newcastle need with Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almiron, Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Allan Saint-Maximin all being out.

On social media, fans have been reacting to news of another injury for Dummett.

Given the lack of new faces so far, it is cause for frustration for some:
