Newcastle United could be without Paul Dummett for their Premier League opener against West Ham United.
The Welshman is struggling with a calf injury he sustained against Doncaster Rovers (via Chronicle).
Despite that, Dummett did feature in the second-half against Rotherham United earlier this week.
He played no part against Burton Albion though, and now faces a race against time to be fit to face the Hammers on August 15.
Bruce said of the 29-year-old: “That’s a little bit of a concern. We’ll see how that is.
“We don’t think it’s anything untoward.
“We think he’ll be touch and go for the start of the season, unfortunately.”
News of another injury to Dummett will hardly come as a surprise.
The star has rarely gone a season without some kind of issue.
Last term, he was limited to just 16 appearances, and in 2019/20 he played 17 games.
It is the last thing Newcastle need with Callum Wilson, Jonjo Shelvey, Miguel Almiron, Martin Dubravka, Karl Darlow and Allan Saint-Maximin all being out.
On social media, fans have been reacting to news of another injury for Dummett.
Given the lack of new faces so far, it is cause for frustration for some:
Here we go

Selling LeJeune was even more stupid than loaning him out last td season

Are our players made from glass !!??

Dummett never used to miss many matches, always injured now, coincidence? Doubt it

There’s a surprise 🤬
Good player, but injured far too often. Misses too many games each season, which is pity as he’s good enough when fit.
Him, Gayle and now Wilson and Fraser appear to be all from the same (fragile) mould.
ASM too, but he’ll soon be someone else’s problem imo

Most unfit club in the world crocks all over the place wonder how many would be injured if they never got paid 🤔

Not another one surely? 🙈😤

There’s something wrong with the whole medical and conditioning side of the club. Most clubs pre season is about fitness but ours is about getting players back from injury.

Something wrong here we are only in pre season and we already have 4 or 5 serious injuries
