It has been a rough week for Newcastle United defender Ciaran Clark.
Saturday night saw him and his teammates embarrassed against Brighton. Four days later and he’s suffered another defeat – this time for his country.
Clark is one of six Toon players called up for international duty.

But a change in scenery for the defender has not brought a change in results.
Clark started for the Republic of Ireland on Wednesday night, who kicked of their 2022 World Cup qualifying campaign with a tricky trip to Serbia.
And unfortunately for Clark and the Irish, it ended in defeat.
Despite taking the lead early on, the Republic of Ireland went on to lose 3-2 after Aleksandar Mitrovic netted a second half brace.
Clark struggled vs Brighton
Things continue to go from bad to worse for Clark.
There wasn’t a single positive performance in black and white on Saturday night. And even a reliable player like Clark severely struggled.
He was at fault for the opening goal, making it too easy for Leandro Trossard to cut in from the left and fire past Martin Dubravka.

While it was a poor performance, Clark has been one of Newcastle’s better players this season.
More often than not Toon fans praise Clark for his steady if unspectacular defensive displays.
However, he did not have a good game at Brighton. And he didn’t have a good game against Serbia, either.
Republic of Ireland fans weren’t happy with the 31-year-old, and let their feelings be known on Twitter.
