Hull City manager Liam Rosenior has made it pretty clear that he wants to keep Newcastle United’s Karl Darlow for next season after a successful loan spell.
Karl Darlow joined the Tigers on loan in January and has settled into Hull nicely on and off the pitch. Darlow has kept five clean sheets in 11 games for Hull since joining, three of which have come in the last four games.
In an interview picked up by The Chronicle, Rosenior was very clear with his intentions to make Darlow’s switch a permanent one, saying: “He’s been magnificent since he’s come in.
‘Hopefully we’ll have discussions in the summer’
“I think he’s massively enjoying working here, I think he’s enjoying the club, he’s settled in with the players really really well.
“What I really like about Karl was as soon as he signed he had his young family come and join him and settle down in the area, and I think that’s helped him. Hopefully we’ll have discussions in the summer about his long-term future.”

There was a lot of confusion around the Newcastle goalkeeping situation in January with Martin Dubravka cutting short his loan spell at Manchester United to return to Newcastle and Loris Karius being offered a contract extension. It was clear that someone was going to have to make way and it turned out to be Darlow.
The former Nottingham Forest man joined the Magpies in 2014 in a double transfer along with Jamaal Lascelles. Both players were loaned back to Forest for a season as part of the deal. Darlow then made his Newcastle debut in 2015 and went on to be in and out of the team. His longest spell between the sticks was in the 2020/21 where he got 25 games under his belt.
Darlow was a great back-up for Newcastle but couldn’t claim the number one spot
Darlow was a dependable back-up ‘keeper but never quite good enough to make that number one spot his own at Newcastle despite former gaffer Steve Bruce calling him ‘terrific‘.
It sounds like things are going much better for the 32-year-old down at Hull and it shouldn’t be too difficult to strike a deal between the two clubs.
The goalkeeper situation at Newcastle is one that will probably be looked at again in the summer. Darlow looks to be on his way, Loris Karius’ contract is up in the summer and Martin Dubravka clearly wasn’t too happy with being second place, so he may want a move too which leaves us with no back-up.
Nick Pope will not be replaced, but we will definitely need to bring in more cover for the England international should Karius and/or Dubravka leave..
