Newcastle United are considering including a certain transfer clause into Dan Ashworth’s move to Man United to ensure they are protected.

It looks like Ashworth’s move to Old Trafford is now just a matter of time after Newcastle had threatened to wait for the full 20-month gardening leave period, but they’re not losing him without a fight.

As reported by the i, Newcastle are considering including a clause that means Man United won’t be able to buy their players for a certain period of time.

Newcastle still hold all the cards with Ashworth move

Man United will be very keen to get to work under these new investors and they’ll need to confirm a lot of key arrivals before that happens including Ashworth, but Newcastle are not simply rolling over for them like they have in the past.

Initially, Newcastle had demanded £20m for the 52-year-old director, though it’s believed that they would be willing to compromise on a lower fee now ahead of what is a busy summer window for both clubs.

Newcastle themselves will be hoping to resolve all this mess very soon by appointing a new figure in that same role to replace Ahsworth, though they still are holding out for a decent fee for him.

The Magpies could be looking to make more of a statement with this move, suggesting to the traditional big six clubs that they are here to stay and they will be a problem for each and every one of them.

Newcastle won’t be taken for a fool

Having this clause in the contract of Ashworth when he makes the move is very good business for Newcastle who are hoping to keep hold of all of their star players in the next could of years.

It’s clear that Ashworth has already taken some of the information he used to help Newcastle with him to Man United as reports have emerged linking them with players he targeted while in the North East.

In the last couple of years, although not everything has gone over smoothly, the one thing they’ve usually gotten absolutely spot on is the negotiations and very rarely would you say that Newcastle have overpaid for someone.

That’s something they can pride themselves on with the likes of Amanda Staveley and Darren Eales historically being good negotiators and getting the very best for this football club.
