The last thing Newcastle United need right now is to lose another key player.
Callum Wilson’s hamstring problem is set to hinder the Magpies for the next two months, and another issue might be on the horizon.
The next international break is coming up in March, and it could have serious repurcussions.
Paraguay have two World Cup Qualifiers scheduled. First they take on Chile away, before a home tie with Colombia. Considering he is one of their key players, Miguel Almiron will likely be part of the squad.

But with the UK’s current COVID quarantine regulations, this could have an impact on Newcastle.
Both Chile and Paraguay are on the government’s ‘red list’, which means people travelling from these countries must quarantine for 10 nights on return. More importantly, there is currently no exemption for elite sports.
Almiron could miss key Newcastle games
If Almiron does play for Paraguay during the upcoming international break, he could miss two Premier Leagues.
The first would be Tottenham at home (April 3rd), followed by a trip to Burnley (April 10th).
The Burnley game in particular could be key to survival.
These games could possibly coincide with Wilson’s return, but ideally we need all our key players as we look to avoid relegation.

Newcastle do have the power to prevent Almiron from travelling due to a FIFA exemption rule, but that could create something of a club vs country row between Miggy and the Magpies.
There is also a chance that quarantine rules could change by March.
Either way, losing another key player could be a huge blow to our survival hopes, especially with Almiron’s current run of good form.
