Newcastle United have gone all in on Bruno Guimaraes.
The midfielder, of course, has been a key player for Newcastle ever since arriving in January 2022. Indeed, Eddie Howe’s side are still yet to win a Premier League game without him.
Guimaraes having a leading role at St James’ Park is nothing new. Still, his importance to the cause took a step up over the course of the summer after the Brazilian was handed the role of team captain.
The thinking is that being given the armband will help the former Lyon star grow. Already a leader on the pitch, actually taking ownership of the role could help further his development.
Guimaraes may not have been at his physical best just yet this season but has been hailed for his defensive performances.
Surely, it can only get better from here for him.
Indeed, few would doubt his quality and Newcastle fans were offered a reminder of that after Guimaraes was nominated for the 2024 Samba Gold Award in his native Brazil.

Guimaraes has been nominated for the award, which celebrates the best Brazilian male player of the year.
Previous winners include Neymar, Alisson, Roberto Firmino, Thiago Silva and Kaka. The current holder is Real Madrid star Vinicius Junior, who is again up for the award.
Lucas Paqueta, Rodrygo, Savio, Joao Gomes, Ederson, Gabriel Martinelli, Pedro and Andreas Pereira are the other nominees.
A public vote is open after an electoral board consisting of Brazilian journalists whittled down the nominees.
Bruno Guimaraes loves life at Newcastle
It’s fantastic to see Guimaraes recognised for his continued excellence in a Newcastle shirt.
Luckily for the club, it seems the midfielder loves life on Tyneside.
Despite being linked with moves away for much of the summer, Guimaraes confirmed he had never asked to leave and remained committed to the cause.
Hopefully, he’ll be Newcastle captain for many years to come.
