Sheffield United’s Chris Basham is determined to get his side’s first win of the season against Newcastle United tomorrow.
It’s not really as if Sheffield United‘s side would need much motivation to pick up their first win of the season tomorrow when Newcastle visit Bramall Lane. What better way to kick-start your season than with a win over last season’s fourth-placed team?
However, one Blades player has extra incentive to bag the win than most.
Sheffield United’s Chris Basham is looking forward to tomorrow
35-year-old Chris Basham was born in Hebburn but grew up supporting Sunderland. He was also part of the Newcastle United academy before being released at 16.
A Mackem who was rejected by the Newcastle academy? It’s no wonder he will feel like he’s got something to prove.

Speaking to The Yorkshire Examiner, Basham spoke of how he’d love to ‘get one over’ on the Magpies tomorrow saying: “It’s a massive game. They’re all big games in the Premier League but this isn’t just another game. It’s Newcastle United.
Newcastle could shatter Basham’s dreams once again
“They played AC Milan in midweek and they’re pushing in the league and Champions League as well, so it’ll be a great game. I’ll have a lot of fans in the away end who I know, but I always want to try and get one over on them. I’m playing for Sheffield United, and we want to get three points and get our season up and running as soon as possible.”

It sounds like Basham has a few sensible mates at least.
Here’s hoping that he doesn’t get his wish and Newcastle come away from Bramall Lane with all three points and a mountain of goals to propel us up the table.
