Newcastle United are being linked with a move for one of the biggest managers in the game.

Though current manager Eddie Howe will seemingly be backed by owners PIF even despite a poor run of form of late, one name has been touted as a replacement.

There’s nothing to suggest anything is imminent of course but it is hard to ignore reports linking one Jose Mourinho with the Newcastle job.

The self-proclaimed ‘Special One’ has previously talked up his admiration for the club given his close personal relationship with Sir Bobby Robson, perhaps leading to the suggestions.

Indeed, Mourinho is coming towards the end of his contract with Roma and there are said to be fears Newcastle could make a move.

Now, some fresh insight has emerged.

Jose Mourinho to Newcastle: Dean Jones provides latest

Indeed, speaking to GIVEMESPORT, noted transfer insider Dean Jones hinted that the pull of Newcastle could tempt Mourinho back to England.

“I think that there will definitely be an allure that would have him tempted,” he said.

“I don’t really think Mourinho heading back to the Premier League is something I’d ever given a high chance of happening again, but it’s probably the one place I could see it happening.

“As a club, they’re going to seek that magic and person that can make something happen out of nothing. For Mourinho, obviously, there is something special about Newcastle. They have got a huge stadium in the middle of the city and it is a football-crazy place.”

Jose Mourinho: Newcastle would be taking major risk

Mourinho might have won trophies pretty much wherever he’s been but the idea of bringing him to St James’ Park feels a major risk.

With PIF having adopted a reasonably measured approach to the transfer market, going for a superstar manager does not feel in keeping.

The end of his time at Chelsea (second spell), Manchester United and Tottenham hardly offer much encouragement Mourinho is still the manager he was once was.

Newcastle might be a tempting job for the 60-year-old at this stage of his career but it’s hard to see what he’s done in England of late that makes him tempting for Newcastle.
