Newcastle United have been keeping a close eye on one of Yankuba Minteh’s teammate during his loan spell at Feyenoord.

Minteh has been impressing Newcastle as of late with three goals in his last two games for the Dutch club, but it’s not just their loanee who they have been interested in watching.

A new report from HITC claims that Newcastle have been very impressed with Feyenoord’s Quinten Timber, whose brother Jurien plays for Arsenal, ahead of the summer transfer window.

Newcastle interested in Minteh teammate

Timber has typically played as a central midfielder throughout his entire career, though he is comfortable on either side of the pitch, and has enjoyed a good season with Feyenoord so far.

The 22-year-old has so far racked up six assists and six goals in 23 league games and is impressing a number of teams including Newcastle who could include him in their summer plans in the coming months.

Given the bond he’s already formed with Minteh in the Netherlands a move for Timber could be ideal should they include the Gambian international in the first-team plans next season.

Newcastle are understood to be in the market for a new midfielder, but bringing one in may mean that there may have to be a sale made to make room for another player who will be after key minutes.

Tottenham are also believed to be keen on the Dutchman so it certainly won’t be a straightforward move for Newcastle to make should they want to.

Newcastle will bolster their midfield this summer

Newcastle already have some very talented players in their midfield with Bruno Guimaraes, Joelinton and Joe Willock all showing why they’re hugely important to the team this season.

Eddie Howe has also enjoyed the emergence of 17-year-old Lewis Miley who has been playing more regularly than he would have expected due to injuries this season but has exceeded all expectations.

The 46-year-old manager will be keen to avoid a similar crisis from occurring next year by bringing in another talented player in that position, especially if they’re playing in Europe.

The plus side of signing Timber at what is still an early stage in his career is that he wouldn’t be demanding to start every single game, so Howe would have plenty of rotation options to use in the new campaign.
