There’s been another twist in an already crazy week for Newcastle United.

It seemed as though Friday’s excitement was going to come from an explosive press conference from Steve Bruce, where the manager was questioned about the scuffle he had with Matt Ritchie.

But soon after the press conference was over, Newcastle United released a statement.

In a week that’s seen injury heartache, training ground bust-ups and revealing stories from journalists, now we’ve got a takeover update.

Bingo anyone?

Newcastle United takeover: What’s the latest?

While there has been no movement on the actual takeover, there has been a development with the club’s legal proceedings.

Newcastle United have lost out on two High Court judgements.

The club had requested for the Chairman of the arbitration panel to be removed due to potential bias, but this was turned down.

The club’s request for the hearing to be made available to the public was also dismissed.

Despite suffering two blows, Mike Ashley still feels he can win this legal battle and push the takeover through.

Magpies take a pop at the Premier League in statement

Despite losing the judgement, the club still wanted details of the hearing to be published. However, the Premier League wanted silence.

“The EPL said that if it was published it should be heavily redacted and anonymised so that readers would not be able to identify the dispute,” the club said in a statement.

However, the Judge rejected the Premier League’s argument, as there was ‘public interest’ in the judgement.

And this is where Newcastle took aim at the Premier League in their statement, saying: “Unfortunately, this is consistent with the EPL’s lack of transparency over the takeover.”

Richard Masters said nothing at all last summer, despite multiple leaks emerging in the press.

And in response to Newcastle’s latest statement, the Premier League said ‘no comment’. Surprise, surprise…

While the Premier League remain silent, Newcastle United are still fighting for this takeover to happen.

In the short-term, the Magpies need to survive in the Premier League. In the long-term, we need this takeover.
